On the Trails of Spring
When winter slowly gives way to the first colorful meadows in the Upper Eisack Valley (Alta Val d'Isarco), there is no better way to welcome the new season than a hike to discover the historical treasures of our municipality. The castles hike is a true highlight, especially in spring: the sun is already pleasantly warm, while the snow still glistens on the surrounding mountain peaks. It is a contrast you will not easily forget. Lace up your hiking boots - a varied itinerary full of panoramic views, culture, and cozy places to stop awaits you.
The Castles Hike in Campo di Trens
Your adventure begins right here, just outside the doors of Hotel Wieser. From here, the trail first leads you to the famous pilgrimage site of Maria Trens. Even if you are not a pilgrim, the magnificent pilgrimage church is absolutely worth a look. You then continue along the Trens panoramic trail, passing through bright forests and sunny sections that offer splendid views over the wide valley of Campo di Trens.
The first stop is Reifenstein Castle (Castel Pietra). The castle towers imposingly on a rocky outcrop and, with its rare round tower, makes for a perfect photo opportunity. Since the castle is inhabited, it can only be viewed from the outside, but even just looking at the ancient walls brings the fascination of the knights' era back to life.
Next is the descent towards Wiesen (Prati). In the park, you will find the ideal spot for a short break. Stop by the park café, treat yourself to a bite to eat, and - our insider tip for tired feet - take advantage of the Kneipp facility to get your circulation going.
Rejuvenated, you continue along the river toward Sprechenstein Castle (Castel Tasso). It is considered one of the best-preserved castles in South Tyrol, as it was never destroyed. The best part? This castle is open to the public. You can dive deep into the world of lords and ladies before taking a leisurely hike back to Stilves, where the cozy atmosphere of our hotel awaits you at the end of the day.
Events and Opening Hours
A truly special experience awaits you during the evening twilight tours. As the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains, the castle opens its doors for an atmospheric torchlit tour. In the magical evening ambiance, the ancient walls and suits of armor look even more fascinating. A true highlight for adventurers both big and small.
If you prefer to visit the castle on your own, you can of course explore the grounds independently. Opening hours and further information can be found on the castle's website.
