Hiking and Biking to Lake Pontelletto in the Isarco Valley

A true hidden gem: The emerald-green mountain lake

Nestled in dense forests of spruce, larch, and stone pine, and framed by the rugged, imposing rock faces of the Tatschspitze peak, lies a true jewel of nature: Lake Pontelletto, situated at 1,850 meters near Campo di Trens, is indisputably one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the entire Isarco Valley. Its emerald-green shimmering surface casts a magical spell on hikers and provides the perfect, ice-cold refreshment on warm summer days from the beginning of June to the beginning of October. Whether you want to lounge on the green meadows around the shore, enjoy an idyllic picnic, or discover ever-new, fascinating perspectives of the crystal-clear water along the narrow circular trail – the lake is a natural spectacle that never fails to amaze even those who know it well. A popular excursion destination and yet, to this day, a true insider tip for your active holiday!

Hidden gem Puntleider Lake Pontelletto

The Hike

...begins at the hikers' parking lot near the Pontelletto-farms above the village of Le Cave. From here, you initially follow the wide, comfortable forest path towards Lake Pontelletto. Shortly afterwards, hiking trail n. 14 branches off. Now you have a choice: stay on the gently ascending but slightly longer forest road, or choose the steep, rustic, and root-covered forest trail, which shortens the climb considerably. Both paths lead directly to the inviting malga Pontelletto Alpine Pasture, from where the lake shore is just a stone's throw away. Our tip for the perfect circular route: choose the crisp hiking trail for the way up and use the relaxed forest road for the return journey.

The Mountainbike / E-Bike Tour

...starts right outside the front door of Hotel Wieser, where the official cycle path also passes by. On the way towards Fortezza, turn off at Le Cave and take the incline up to the picturesque Pontelletto farms. From there, follow the forest road further uphill to the malga Pontelletto Alpine Pasture. Since the final section to the lake is a protected trail, the lake cannot be reached directly by bike. Simply park your bike at the alpine hut and enjoy the last approx. 20 minutes on foot as a short, soothing stroll to the glittering shore. The return journey follows the same route.
